The Scottish Game Fair at Scone Palace
on 2-4 July marked a major success in the development of the East of
Scotland Wildfowling Club (ESAWC). The club had its own stand at
the Game Fair and featured the wide range of club activities,
several raffles and competitions, cartridge loading demonstrations
and wildfowling information.
The success of ESAWC is a welcome reversal of the trend which has
seen the number of wildfowling clubs diminish. Within the club's
area there are at least nine clubs that were once affiliated to BASC
that have either ceased to exist or are no longer affiliated. In
contrast a high local profile and strong recruitment are hallmarks
of ESAWC's success.
The club's secretary, David de Gernier, who was recently elected to
the Council of BASC, said, "Apart from gaining many new members, the
great success of the three days was that our stand provided a
meeting place at the Fair for our existing members, many of whom
called in for a cuppa and a chat or joined us for something stronger
at our barbecue behind the tent."
